Our History

The current structure of organized climate action in Monroe County first took shape in 2007, when concerned Brighton citizens formed the Color Brighton Green initiative.  In the coming years, other settlements in Monroe County followed suit, and in July 2020, the Climate Solutions Accelerator began efforts to expand the Color Your Community Green program across the county.  Rochester's initiative is among the newest, founded in January 2023, and it is our mission to advocate for a healthier climate in Monroe County's largest city.

Our Partners

Color Rochester Green is a proud affiliate of the Climate Solutions Accelerator, an organization dedicated to facilitating climate action across the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region.  Originally founded in 2014 as the Rochester People's Climate Coalition (RPCC),  this group was registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2017 and hired its first staff person in 2018.  To this day it continues to grow, dedicated in its mission to promote climate action across the nine-county area.
